Once upon a time, a well-known BBS poster and an avid CC advocate and player wanted to buy an Alexander CC tuba. But alas, the fine folks in Mainz, Deutschland, evidently only had a BBb available for immediate shipping. After receiving aforementioned BBb tuba, aforementioned avid CC advocate tried it and REALLY liked how it sounded. After several months of playing, evidence has started to appear that this gentlemen is rather beginning to appreciate some of the qualities of BBb tubas -- at least the Alex.

Once upon a different time, a fairly unknown tubist who plays semi-professionally in central Indiana happened upon a Hirshbrunned BBb tuba at a REALLY good price -- and he bought it. When I asked this tubist why he was playing BBb in the local orchestra instead of the "typical" choice of CC, he replied, "It was a REALLY good price!"

Each of these two tubists encountered a tuba that was perhaps more "different" from their "expected ideal" than the differences between a 2165 and a Nirschl. Each of these tubists is playing the "different" tuba very successfully. It would seem that *any* quality tuba you find that you enjoy playing and that makes you sound good would be a good choice, assuming the price is right.

Or is this just a fable . . . ?
