Many of you are very familiar with Silvestre Revueltas' "Sensemaya". But he also wrote a chamber work called "Homenaje a Federico Garcia Lorca" scored for a variety of about 16 string, wind, brass and percussion instruments including trumpet, trombone and tuba. The tuba part is very active and something every tubist should have in his/her library.

I have two really phenomenal recordings of this that you all might want to check out.

First, a full disc of Revueltas' music by Esa Pekka Salonen and the LA Phil on Sony Classical (SK 60676). Norm Pearson sounds absolutely top-notch on everything, but especially the Garcia Lorca work!

Also, there is a disc on Summit Records (DCD 122) that includes Messiaen's "Et Expecto" and Ruggles' "Angels". The ensemble is known as Ensemble 21 and the tubist is Dan Perantoni. Again, really fantastic tuba playing.

Both are must haves.
