I have a couple of K&M stands. They're OK, but I also worry about them tipping over. The mass of the horn is lower and centered quite a lot better than it is when on its bell, so this may just be paranoia.

I've never actually had one fall over, but I did have a horn slip out because I hadn't been careful enough to center the bottom bow on the stand. Got a nice (???) ding on the bell flare. K&M makes something called a "large tuba stand" but I haven't seen one yet.

I also pulled an old sock over each arm of the stand to guard against scratching, etc.

Those with "small socks" might not be able to use this trick!

I've always wondered if something shaped like a road construction marker cone filled with concrete might not work - sort of like a trombone stand on steroids.
