You can get special penetrating oil for this purpose from Ferree's or even The Brasswind along with slide-hammer rigs to help loosen the slide.
But on an old horn, you do risk pulling the joints on the horn apart when you start applying any substantial force. This is one you may want to leave to your repairman--if it happens to him, it's not a big deal to put things back together again.
