Teresa Cenitiempo, the choral director, in 8th grade, taught me how to play musically and in pitch by spending 3 weeks of an hour a day, after school, with me playing tuba and she singing for me to get proper pitch and musical expression.

George Black (Schwartz), a friend and collegue of Bill Bell, for years, in New York and later the adjunct tuba pro at Western Washington University, showed me how to use what I knew and then expanded what I knew tremendously. We never had a lesson; we just played duets for two hours every week. If I missed something, he would say: "They usually play that this way." and give the correct example.

These two people were in my life nearly 20 years apart but they influenced me wonderfully.
