Before you buy off ***y, make sure you talk to the individual selling the horn. I've made several successful purchases at the site but I've also purchased several duds. I've found that most of the folks who sell on that popular auction site are honest people but clueless when it comes to tubas. Most of them are junk dealers, antique dealers, or pawn shop owners who are clueless when it comes to tubas. Chances are anything you buy in your price range is going to have some problems. If the pistons go up and down and the slides pull, then they consider everything OK but nevermind the fact that the valves have so much clearance in them the horn will barely play. My advice is stay away from ***y unless you can withstand an element of risk. There are some good buys to be had but your chances of getting burned are very good. Try your local school system first.
