Marcel Tabuteau (approx. c. 1st half of 20th c. - Philadelphia Orchestra - Curtis - The tyrannical teacher-virtuoso player who defined American oboe playing) is also probably the prime guru for the "mechanical-musical" teaching (at least that which is occuring in America) to which you refer. I don't buy into it either.

Blatting on low notes is fine, as long as a performer is aware that they are doing it.

I was speaking of those who have no idea what sounds they are communicating to listeners.
