what Berlioz would've though about the "ball breaking bass trombone and tuba sound". The bass trombone in F of Berlioz's time was a small-bore "peashooter" played with a mouthpiece about the size of a Bach 11C tenor bone mouthpiece. The tuba in common use in France at that time was a small Eb scarcely bigger than a modern euphonium.
No sarcasm intended, just marveling in the directions that the concept of sound for these works has gone.
