This is exactly how i learn any piece that i splayed as a group, I find that counting is good to get started, but often enough the bands tempo changes in certain parts whether intentional or not. Tubas have one of the most if not the most important part in a peice (Foundation for everyone else essentially) So you should be able to hear where your part fits in with the rest and just learn it that way. I find that much more proficient. 90% of the time, except when the rest of the band dies out at a junciton (hey baby... *lol*) and your the only left playing for bout 2 measures.. well int hat case.. keeping time does matter :-p
