Sometimes, ok most of the time, the simple answers are the hardest to accept. If a person is looking for an excuse, any will do. Once a good friend, or so I thought, told the rest of our quintet he had to get home to feed the dog. We were out of town playing an important job. I didn't understand then but I do now. Any excuse will do. Go feed the dog, change horns, switch mouthpieces, get a different teacher, use the Bill Bell method, the Harvey Phillips method, the Emory Remington method, or even the Arnold Jacobs method. Play the horn, have fun, work on your weaknesses while strengthening your strong points, and have a blast. Music is to enjoy. We should look for ways to do that.
