If bassoon absolutely is her "thing", they could send her up to Interlochen Arts Academy. It is a boarding school with extremely high scholastic standards (Is she brainy?) and a two-hour band or orchestra reheasal the first thing every day. Private instruction, obviously, is part of the deal. Needless to say, the campus is beautiful and they have updated the dorms.

If they are broke but she is a killer player, Interlochen is LOADED with scholarship endowments. If they don't pony up enough scholarship money on their first offer, a well-worded letter to them will probably get them to cough up the $$$$.

Although Interlochen and the home base are in two opposite corners of the state, surely they could work out visits at least every other weekend, and there are L-O-N-G holidays during the school year to reunite with family.

If that is out of the question, I have heard that Ann Arbor High School has consistantly had an outstanding band program. Incidentally, the head honcho at Interlochen, Mr. Downing, used to be the AAHS band director.
