My niece is a fine bassoon player in a well-funded high-school program in Texas. As a sophomore, she came quite close to getting in the All-State Band, and her school band regularly travels the nation.
But her father has been transferred to a small town in Southern Michigan (Jackson), and his family will be following at the end of this year. My nieces are both okay with this, but the bassoonist is a little worried about what band will be like in that area.
Are there any Michiganites on the list who are familiar with the high-school band programs in that part of Michigan, who can comment on what schools in the are would provide her the best opportunities to keep up with her music? They will decide where to live based on the schools in that area.
