It is possible to play the low F open on CC tuba. The note will probably be flat but you have time before and after the long note to adjust the main tuning slide. I have found, after playing this piece many times, that I can control the note the best this way. I actually recommend that you work on playing low F to pedal CC with short fingerings as options. You can do this on any keyed tuba. You start a 4th above the fundamental open and work down chromatically. However, I just bought a 6v F-tuba and am waiting to try it out with all 6 valves.
