Sources have informed me that the Oxford University optional cadenza was inserted in by an editor and was never intended by Ralph Vaughan Williams himself. I'm not entirely sure of the merit it this, but the most 'authentic' example that I've heard so far is the Micheal Lind recording. In my own opinion, this recording musically makes the most sense.
