My understanding is that CLR is a citric acid - based solution, similar to what "we" repair shops sometimes buy called "Slime Away" or "Exocleen".

Any acid could harm metal if left in there long enough. 15 minutes of this citric concentrate - mixed properly - shouldn't hurt brass, nickel-silver, or monel. It WOULD etch a SILVER PLATED surface a little bit, but I have even allowed THAT "trade-off" on nasty instruments that REALLY needed a good interior soaking.

I'll have to catch Don't do it (again)!!!'s act sometime. Just like Smuckers, with a name like that, he HAS to be good. :-)
