some B&S Horns have wide pistons with bore comparable to most rotaries I've seen. The one beast that particularly comes to mind is the PT-7. It has a .787" Bore on the first three valves, .820" on the 4th piston, and somewhere around .860" on the rotor. First horn that ever felt "large" for me after years on a St. Pete... am happy with my 3/4 CC now. :)
Though at one point piston bore might have been commonly smaller for physical reasons, the only reasons I can think of for it now would be "tradition".
