Since I have heard a "factoid" repeated many times, I think this is a good place to sort it out. I have been told by several reasonable and knowledgable people that piston horns are limited to about .750 for bore size because anything larger would be too large for the piston to open and close (piston has to travel at least 3/4" to open or close the tube)in a reasonable time. Rotaries, on the other hand always travel the same arc, regardless of bore size so they can be larger than the piston horns. Any truth to this? Seems plausible but there must be some exceptions. It also could be blatant "folk-lore."
