Head Scratcher:

Is there a rough equivalency, rule of thumb, or method for figuring the relationship of bore sizes from piston to rotor? For example, the venerable Miraphone 186 has a .770 bore - mostly larger than a 2165. I know that rotary horns have larger bore sizes (but not why), and that the larger horns tend to have tapered bores whether piston or rotary. So the question is, if (for example) Miraphone were to suddenly decide that a piston 186 would be just the thing to fill that 4/4 piston niche that they seem to be missing, what would the bore size of the piston version have to be, given the .770 of the rotary 186? Or is the answer just a catch-all "it depends"? If so, what does it depend on? Joe? Matt? Sam?

a Pal:

I've figured out that the Miraphone 1295 is actually a reworked 1290. Is there any feedback on this "new" model? Is the only difference the position of the tubing and tuning slides? How does it stack up against other 5/4's eg. Willson, 2155, PT-6 - same as a 1290? Charlie? Aubrey?
