Regarding Vincent Bach's theories about backbore: Keep in mind that Bach was a trumpet player, and that he did all of his experimentation with trumpet mouthpieces. The backbore of a trumpet mouthpiece is longer that of a tuba mouthpiece. But at tuba is four times longer than a trumpet. Any conclusions about backbore that are valid for trumpet would have to be applied to the leadpipe of a tuba, not to the mouthpiece.
