I have to agree with sean on this one. Its not that you will ever run into this problem in your career often..if ever, but it is soo much easier to learn a new clef than trying to find a transcription of a solo somewhere else. Sean is right it is cheaper to buy a G.Schirmer edition of some flute sonatas (AT) 5.95 with accompaniment than to pay $15 bucks for some guy to transpose one. As for the aesthetic side, learning to read different clefs may be no better for a person than speaking more than one language. If you plan never to leave the US and you will only watch american films in english, or only talk to people that only speak English then one language will do you fine your whole life.
I am not saying one way is better than another but for me I would like to go to Europe one day and be able to communicate.
