Which is why I started playing the solos of other instruments in the first place (because I really wanted certain styles of music that simply weren't available for the tuba). The only thing I don't agree with you about (and it is only a very minor disagreement) is the need to learn how to transpose. Certain transpositions are valuable (the octave, the whole tone) but I don't find the others of much benefit to be fluent in. Granted, I don't play any music that calls for that skill except maybe once or twice in my whole career. However, reading treble clef is an absolute necessity. It opens up whole new vistas of music.

My opinion for what it's worth...
