Andy, I don't think it's that unusual. Some of my brass teachers had that philosophy. Another one of my teachers, John Olah, used a bored out Bach 18 for his HB2, Rudy 3/4, and his Yamaha 321 Eb, but that was 20 years ago. I have no idea what he uses today, (Jay?). I've known atrumpet player who've bought the Bach wooden display case because of all the mouthpieces they used. I have a M1CB that is great on my Rudy, but my Doug Elliott blends better with our community band with 7 tubas. The sound with M1CB pops out a lot. If I was still in an orchestra, I would use the Dillon. I want a brighter sound on my Eb, but I don't want to loose the sound on the low notes. I've tried my Doug Elliott on my Eb and it sounds great, but makes it sound like a 3/4 CC.
