To challenge your day in band class, is learning how to read and play music. You might need to be able to double on a second instrument in your college or adult life. How about bass guitar, it won't bother your chops and it could open up a new can of beans. Nothing worse than a bass guitar in a good sousa march, maybe he would reconsider his paththitic idea that everybody has to match. "Always more than one way to skin a cat" But like others have posted here get in a commuinty band. Bet there is one right under your nose. Most of the time the comuinity band has private teachers. Who knows that in its self will open some great playing opertunites!!!! Plus most community bands play year around, with many concerts. You have the keys, its your life take some chances open some doors and make it happen.
