Lew, you bring up an interesting question. When is enough tuning slide pull too much? Say some manufacturer build a very sharp-playing tuba with a hugely long tuning slide and that we can disregard any incidental intonation issues that may arise. Do you think that this would play better or worse than a horn that required almost no slide pull?
I know you collect old brass. Have you found that extending the tuning slides on old high-pitch horns to play in modern tuning detracts from their sound?
