Basically, I agree with everything you say. If I were a full-time bass trombonist, I would most probably have a double-trigger horn (I like the Getzen 1062-FD a lot). My post was meant to offer some food for thought. The double-valve horns, especially the ones with Thayer valves are really heavy and poorly balanced. Pick one up, play it a while, and decide how your wrist is going to hold up if you are not going to spend a lot of time adjusting to it.

The two-valve horns also have a higher learning curve. Instead of two sets of slide positions to learn, you have four. Anyway, spend some time evaluating what kind of playing you are going to do. Also, think about how much time during an average week you will be able to spend practicing. My point was never to suggest that everyone should buy a single-valve horn, just that you don't dismiss the idea out of hand.
