Are you familiar with Clyde Hunt's recording of various studies, including a 2 CD set of Arban? I've got his Bousquet and Charlier CDs and he does a very nice job them, IMO.

I think different teachers have different approaches to Arban.

My teacher insisted that solfege be part of Arban study, since apparently that was the tradiional way it was studied at the Paris Conservatoire back before the turn of the century. So Dannhauser and Arban for him go hand-in-hand--you play and solfege both.
