I have a trombone student who ordered (Ebay-ed) one of these "Maestro" instruments this year. The slide moves as if he's mixing concrete, and the water key broke in half last week. When he first showed it to me, proclaiming that it was brand new, I almost choked. My first guess would have been that the horn was at least 20 yrs old.
These instruments are a problem, but his first attempt at purchasing an instrument was also on ebay, and he got stiffed for a Bach trombone. I wish there had been a pamphlet sent out last spring to all the parents to advise them on how to purchase an instrument. If I have any say in the matter, the band director will do that this year.
I also discovered that Sam's Club sells instruments as well. Yikes.
