I have an old Bb tuba on which the 1st valve often over-rotates and gives me a funny tone. It's been repaired, but the repairman says the tuba needs another $600 worth of work on the valves. It played O.K. after the repair for a few weeks, and now if I get overly enthusiastic about depressing the 1st valve, it sounds fuzzy again. Have any of you had this experience, and have you come up with a solution (other than spending $600 on a tuba I bought for $600)?
