Roger Bobo gave a master class at the Army Band T-E conference.
He was working on the Suite for Unaccompanied Tuba by Walter Hartley with a high school player. He came to a slur where the notes had lines over them. He explained various ways that combination of markings could be interpreted, and asked rhetorically "who knows what Mr. Hartley meant precisely". Someone in the audience replied, "ask him". Walter Hartley, to everyone's surpise, stood up and gave his answer. Mr. Bobo said something to the effect that "from now on I'll only work on 19th century music in these masterclasses."
