With all due respect to the age of the readers here, in my own ironic way I was trying to use an analogy for the word that means "creates an inward, sustained vacuum". You can use your imagination from here. Never had the problems you mentioned, sorry, can't help you there. My 641 was a gift from the tuba-gods. I have never played one since that came remotely close to mine.
