You say the 641s 'hoovered'. By that do you mean some notes flutter AND others break up for a short duration when attacked? I have recently bought a used 641 for my high schooler and find this to be the case. My theory is that this can be minimized or eliminated by pulling slides - I'm just startting to play around with this.

Any suggestions? Wonder what's different about your new one.

Yamaha bills the 641 as a 'professional outfit' and I know a college teacher who uses it as their main instrument - but this fluttering is something I've never had a problem with in any horn except the Cerveney 686 and this 641.
