I know it's probably an old warhorse subject, but...
I always hear of BBb players using Eb as their small horn and CC players using F, with a couple of exceptions.(Jay) I was just curious as to whether this was simply a choice made based on fingering similarities alone, or if there is enough of a difference in sound and blending characteristics to outweigh the difference in prices that I see between Eb & F?
Jay, you mentioned earlier that your Cervany Eb gave a sound like an F. Would you mind expanding on that a little? If the Cervany DIDN'T have that sound, would you find an F or look for a different Eb that did have that sound? What exactly are some of the similarities and differences between the Cervany and a good F?
F players jump in here, too. What specific sound qualities attract you to an F?
Honestly, I don't have that much experience with Eb/F, but hopfully I will in the not-too-distant future, if ya know what I mean. But I do know that the sound qualities are somewhat different than what you get with a 6/4 B.A.T. (unless it's a 6/4 B.A. Eb/F T.)
