Hi Jay et al.:

>Carl, did you have access to one of his mouthpieces [Laskey] when you tried out the Nirschl?

Not a Laskey, but I took about ten mouthpieces with me when I went to the factory to pick it out. I was lucky enough to be able to pick my horn from four newly-finished York copies. The three 'runners-up' were even more out of tune!

I've tried a whole variety of m'pieces on this horn, including a strange old adjustable cup-depth thing. No dice. While some mouthpieces lessen the tuning discrepancies, I still have to do quite a bit of lipping and 'bending' of notes in order to play in tune. We're talking just tuning C and the C that's one octave down!

Don't get me wrong: This is a great instrument, and I CAN play it in tune. I just feel it's more work than it ought to be. My two cents.
