I hate to tell you this, but there was only one way I could handle the change in tubas. It was practice. I get to the point that I have to literally memorize fingerings note for note if I am giong from BBb to Eb, or F, or write them in (ugh). The very few times I play CC, I can refer to the note and how it's fingered on trumpet. (as writen pitch, not by the aural pitch of the note).

I only have this problem going between different tubas. If I go to clarinets or saxes, I don't have this problem. Probably due to more time in my youth spent on reed instruments. (please don't slap me for that)! I would have the problem going between various trombones or trumpets.

I also see and hear the note at the same time. It is hard to separate the writen from the aural. I sometimes get headaches trying to do it.
