Sure, I like to play what I feel is musically appropriate (and I always retain a sense of my individuality) and "no news is good news" as far as having my initial approach modified by the conductor. But if a conductor has given me, or the section, an indication to play something differently, I think it is unprofessional (and possibly even immature) to do it for all the rehearsals, then "revert" (or whatever) during the performance.

I wouldn't expect (or accept) that approach in a school band (if I were directing one), much less from orchestral pros (of which I am one)... but perhaps I'm the odd one out!

BTW, I am absolutely not an aspiring conductor!
