This procedure is not unique but what I do is take the tuba outside, dump a gallon of vinegar in the bell and slosh it around and make sure it gets through all the piping. This probably takes about 20 minutes. I'm always amazed at all the "tuba gunk" that comes out of the horn. Then I dump it out and squirt dish soap in the horn and fill it up with water. I slosh that around real good and dump it out. Then I rinse the horn out real good with clean water, grease the slides, oil the valves and give the horn a nice polish. It's probably not as good as a professional chem dip but the horn sure does look good when I'm done. It's a scientific fact that a clean horn plays better, just like a clean car drives better.
