Rommel,
I see your name as one of the "Recipients of Commission Assistance Grants Awarded in July 2001". I admit to being skeptical when I also read "At this time, the grant is only available to commission composer Sy Brandon. We hope to open it up to other composers in the future as funds permit." But I'm prepared to keep an open mind. Since you obviously have some involvement, can you please explain:

1. What does it mean to be a "recipient of [a] Commission Assistance Grant"?
2. Who is giving the grant money (and don't say "The New Music Cultivation Fund"; such funds do not emerge fully funded from thin air)?
3. Do grantees also have to contribute financially?
4. How was Sy Brandon chosen as the one and only composer available?

On its face, all signs point to this being some kind of a scam run by this Sy Brandon to get his foot in the door and sell his music. If these questions cannot be clearly and satisfactorily answered, skepticism -- and even scorn -- seems appropriate.

Joe Baker, who hopes he will be pleasantly surprised. Really.
