Purchasing my kid a tuba

I posted a query about a week ago asking opinions of choices on a BBb. To all who responded, thank you. Remarkably, there were no flames, just good advise, albeit some biased. I must admit (being a woodwind player only) being totally ignorant to the world of low brass, but willing to learn. I'd seen a few St. Pete's around in person, and to my blessed good fortune, bid on a couple on Ebay, but was overbid. Which brings me to my first point-- you can't find a decent horn there, and certainly take a risk if you buy that way, sight unseen. It's a seller's media. Second point-- Tuba Exchange is a very aggressive business, primarily oriented at being a business first, and serving the low brass community second. My final point-- we settled on a nice, clean, reconditioned Miraphone 186 from Dillon Music. They, and Matt Walters, will not steer you wrong.

Looking forward to watching my pride & joy develop into a fine low brass player. Great BBS and I'll be checking in on you guys periodically.
