Are there any local colleges/universities that have a low brass studio? You might be able to find some students with a wide variety of tubas, and hopefully, they'd be willing to let you play some on their tubas to let you get an idea of what kind of tuba you're looking for. Also, find out how they went about obtaining a tuba. Hope this helps!
