Last year I practiced 4-5 hours a day hardcore, no exceptions. It helped, it really did. BUT, what I've learned from working with other pros (including non-tubists) is that I need to work hard enough to get everything to where I want it to be. Sometimes that means three hours a day, other times that means six. And to tell the truth, I've accomplished/won a whole lot more this year than last. It's all in the approach. Plan on where you want your work to be by the time you need to perform it/ audition with it/ play it for your teacher. Then put in as much work each day as you think you'll need to get it there. This will ensure that you're practicing comfortably and efficiently, rather than just putting in the time.
