A bar mounted under the paddles with rubber-tipped screws at 90 degrees, one for the paddle and the other for the other end of the paddle arm, would do the trick. You might be able to make one yourself and attach it, and then just remove the bumper plate from the front of the valve casing. Actually, the more I think about it, the better I like it. Another advantage would be that the bumpers at the outboard end of the paddle movement, where it would be quite crisp, instead of at the stop arm, which has too much leverage. This is why those bumpers break down so quickly. Hmmmm.
