I think more folks who play Eb tubas (not all, by any means) consider using an Eb tuba as their "one" tuba to get around all sorts of playing situations.

[This is by NO means an insult to Eb players!]... I think Eb tubas are, in general, a lot more "player-friendly" than F tubas, and are often easier to just pick up and get a good sound.

More Eb tubas seem to have wider bell throats and flares - offering "mellower" timbres.
