I see your point, but disagree. I know you're joking -- kinda, at least -- but of course the type you're talking about will continue to show up at the monster truck rally, not the concert hall. People who go to concerts do so out of an appreciation for fine things. For many it is the music; for many others it's the beauty of the hall, the highly civilized atmosphere, getting dressed up -- being in a place that doesn't have a strolling hot-dog vendor or a drunk in a dirty T-shirt yelling obscenities. But for just about everyone in attendance, it's about fine things, not coarse things.

With orchestras on the brink of disappearing altogether, no patrons are expendable. When it is no longer a highly civilized experience, many of the patrons will leave. Orchestras cannot afford that loss.

Joe Baker, who likes fine things and coarse things, but wants them clearly separated.
