The Yamaha is based on the Yamaha UK style EEb (when they made it with the 17" bell) which is a clone of the Besson EEb, hence the stronger low register and weaker high register that is typical of the Besson. It is also the reason that the sound is so solid but inflexible.
The 45slp is a product of Melton’s (the original name of the company that is still used everywhere except the USA) policy of making as many models as possible from a small amount of parts. The first models that I know of using that body are the 45S and 46S, the large bodied rotary F tubas. They have now put a piston valve section on and made the 45slp and 46slp (Titan). So you have the Yamaha that plays like an EEb and a Melton that is a very good German F with pistons. Both having the same characteristics as their “parents”. Tuba Genetics!!!!
