Question for UK players

On that particular online auction site, the description for an older tuba from the UK includes the phrase "the valves were recoppered".

It started me wondering about that phrase.

When valves are refurbished in the UK, is standard procedure to simply plate a layer of copper on the worn piston without a layer of nickel over it? Or is this a British "term of art" for copper+nickel plating?
