I agree with the idea posted above about putting the extra valve into the 4th valve loop. That way you are sure that the response won't be messed up and you can remove it when you don't need the extra weight. In fact I believe that putting two extra valves in the 4th valve loop would enable you to play chromatically down to the pedal note with fairly simple fingerings.
A few years ago I saw an old main tuning slide 5th valve for a rotary King CC tuba that had been owned by a well-known NY tubist. He had soldered the rotor in place, so it would not turn. Apparently when he wanted to play a BBb tuba instead of CC he would just swap tuning slides and pull out the valve slides. We can only guess about why he soldered the rotor in place, but he must have had reasons.
