Dave, Go for it. I have had mouthpieces replated and it is cheaper than getting a new one with the same result. Make sure you talk to a repairer that will have the right contacts.
I fell into the trap of letting a friend get it done, and it came back chrome plated. Not a good idea, but it does make a good show piece in the book case.
