The full retail version of Finale's about $450, but you can get it as an 'academic" version for about $250. I can safely say that although extremely flexible, Finale's anything but easy to use. You may want to take a look at something like Noteworthy, which at $39, has to be one of the least expensive workable packages.

Evaluate your needs carefully, because at present, there is no common interchange format between the various packages. That means that if you compose in Noteworthy, you won't get Finale to read your scores.
