The whole CC vs. BBb thing is not a crock. There are differences between the horns other than fingerings! Also, whether or not pistons are better than rotaries is up to the person who buys the instrument. Some people have trouble playing either type of system for any number of reasons. I find that there are differences in how a piston horn sounds when compared to a rotary horn. Lots of people do. So, to say that these things are a crock, or that people own the horns they do for some type of elitist, ego trip is, shall I say, naive! OK, maybe there are a few of those people, but that sort of generalization is dangerous.
