This is sad news indeed. The most memorable performance I heard of Ron's with the Vienna Philharmonic was that of Bruckner's 4th Symphony with Claudio Abbado conducting, at Carnegie Hall. The orchestra sounded wonderful (no surprise there), as did Ron; perfect balance, blend, ensemble; just right. I had the pleasure of meeting him, he was a real gentleman. And he was just seen on the VPO's New Year's Concert broadcast the other day. What a shame. Goodbye, Ron.
